Information on School Performance Designations

The following communication was sent to all District 44 families from Superintendent Ted Stec:

Dear District 44 Families,

On October 31, the Illinois State Board of Education will publically release the Illinois State Report Cards, which will include a new way to classify the performance of a school. This change is in response to the implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

There are four “performance” designations a school can receive, which include the following: Exemplary, Commendable, Underperforming and Lowest Performing. A variety of factors are utilized by the state to determine those designations, and it is important that we all understand what this means for Lombard District 44.

Please take five minutes to watch this short video that helps explain more about ESSA as well as highlights what preliminary designations have been assigned to our schools. These designations are truly preliminary because they could potentially change between now and the public release of the Illinois State Report Card. However, in an effort to proactively communicate with you, we wanted to share what information we know today and help provide greater clarity about ESSA given how new this is to all of us.

In the meantime, please know how incredibly proud I am to work in a district so deeply focused on providing our students with connections, experiences and knowledge that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.

Ted Stec
